The mountain views feel bigger, life slows down a little and even those of us who spend plenty of time around the lake can discover something new. For more than three decades, the Virginia Dare has been a familiar and beloved sight on Smith Mountain Lake. This charming replica side-wheeler gives visitors and locals an easy, laid-back way to explore the lake. No boat ownership or captain skills required!

The Virginia Dare's narrated sightseeing cruises typically last about two hours and operate from spring through fall. Along the way, you may spot private islands, historic structures, established waterfront communities, osprey nests and, of course, the Smith Mountain Dam.

You will even cruise over an underwater bridge. (How fun is that?) It is one of those little SML facts you might never discover unless you hop aboard.
