My first memories of The Homeplace go back to Sunday afternoons with my family. After church in Buchanan, we would make the drive to Catawba for lunch. It was more than simply going out to eat, it was part of our family's routine.
It was tradition that made the meals that much more special!
Many of our visits were tied to important occasions. Easter Sunday and Mother's Day were times when gathering at The Homeplace felt like a natural part of celebrating together. There was something meaningful about sharing a meal there after church enjoying familiar food, spending time with family, and simply slowing down to appreciate being together.
That love for The Homeplace continued as I got older. During high school, it became a place I wanted to share with others. I remember taking both prom and homecoming dates there!
I was proud to bring people to a restaurant that had always offered great food, welcoming service, and so many memories for my family.
As an adult, I continued recommending The Homeplace to friends and coworkers whenever I planned a visit. In a way, I became a walking advertisement ... not because anyone asked me to, but because I genuinely enjoyed the experience.
When I heard that The Homeplace would be closing during the pandemic, I had a sinking feeling. I worried I would never again make memories there with friends and family (or enjoy that famous apple butter!).
Thankfully, this is a comeback story!
The Homeplace is once again serving the Southern comfort food and welcoming charm that locals have loved for generations.
To me, The Homeplace is more than a restaurant. It holds memories of Sunday lunches after church, family celebrations, prom and homecoming dates, and time spent with friends.
The food and service bring people back, but the memories are what make it truly special.
